On behalf of the doctors, surgeons, nurses, valued employees and friends of NICVD, I am delighted to welcome you to our institute.
For over half a century, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases has tirelessly endeavored to excel in cardiovascular patient-care, training and research. With more than 100 highly qualified surgeons, doctors and trainees, we have provided superior cardiac treatment to approximately 400,000 OPD patients, 37,000 in-patients and nearly 200,000 emergency cases in the past year.
As a heart patient, NICVD offers you a range of cost-effective treatment plans (in our general, semi-private, private and VIP rooms) as well as physiotherapy and rehabilitation services to also ensure the future well-being of our patients. No patient at NICVD is refused treatment regardless of their financial affordability, caste, religion, ethnicity or any other socioeconomic barrier.
For a doctor aspiring to pursue cardiology, NICVD offers the opportunity to train and practice with the leading cardiologists and cardiac surgeons in the country. We offer post graduate fellowships in Adult Cardiology, Paediatric Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Cardiac Anaesthesia and Interventional Cardiology, a diploma in Cardiology and various other learning opportunities to medical students, nurses and technicians.
With yet another year drawing to a close, I have to say it has been a challenging but rewarding year for our hospital. In a short time span, we have attracted global spotlight with our world record of performing 3604 primary angioplasties for heart attacks in just 12 months (May 2015- May 2016). This speaks volumes on the enhanced capacity of an institution that is running on a limited budget.
We became first public hospital in Pakistan to perform a successful Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI). Although an exceptionally expensive procedure, keeping in line with our mission to invest in innovation, 19 TAVI procedures been completed in the last one year, totally free of cost.
NICVD embarked up on a transformational journey 16 months ago with an aggressive new vision of pursuing patient care round-the clock. Hence, the cardiac surgery unit has been able to double the number of surgeries from 1300 last year to 2500 (2014-2015). With generous help from the Government of Sindh, we are charging Rs. 0 for all paediatric surgeries at NICVD as of May 2016.
Generous donations of equipment from our donors have allowed us to reduce waiting time by a significant margin in the past year (2015).
An ambitious reconstruction and rehabilitation plan to increase the current capacity of the hospital is currently underway. We also plan to build satellite cardiac units in various districts of Sindh in the near future.
With such commendable efforts being executed by my remarkable team, I am confident that we will continue to drive changes that will positively influence our patients and allow us to set a new benchmark in cardiac healthcare.
